Yotsrim Chalom (Creating Dreams) is an empowerment program run by young women who are doing Sherut Leumi (national service) in the framework of Bat Ami. The program is geared to kids in 4th-6th grade, and was first run in Netivot five years ago. Its success led to the deployment of the program is other cities in Israel's social periphery: Ofakim, Sderot, Mitspe-Ramon, Beer-Sheva, Dimona and South Tel-Aviv. The program focuses on instilling in the participants a feeling that they can succeed, and the development of ambition and motivation.

Each week, the participants receive homework help and take part in a variety of after-school activities such as drama, dance, voice lessons, sports, and music. The highlight of the program is the year-end show, which involves extensive preparations together with the volunteers running the program. The show serves as a meaningful experience that the kids remember fondly as they grow older.

The program was developed to supplement the formal education system, which measures success only in terms of academic achievement, without sufficient attention to kids' nature and needs. This kind of measurement marks certain children as less successful, and this detracts from their feeling of capability and their motivation to succeed. We believe that children who feel that they are good at something will have the motivation to take on new challenges and will develop self-confidence and aspirations for the future.
